General Assessment Information
Assessment means estimating a property’s value for tax purposes. It provides the basis for property taxes in the city. Property taxes help pay for services such as policing, fire protection, garbage collection, and snow removal.
The Municipal Assessment Act requires the City to assess all properties in Winnipeg. This helps make sure property taxes are shared equitably and fairly.
A general assessment (also called a reassessment) sets new values for all properties in the city.
Provincial legislation requires a general assessment every two years. It uses market value as of a specific reference date.
The 2027 General Assessment reflects market conditions as of April 1, 2025.
